So for all you Steve Madden lovers they had an intense sale this past weekend with their scratch and win campaign. Steve never fails when its scratch and win weekend because everyone always wins. Weekly Fierce Find - JCP Style

Can I just say that I am truly impressed with JCP these days. Their advertisements are definitely rubbing off on me. Not sure how many of you have seen their commercials lately, but they have a nice Spring campaign going on. Two thumbs up for them. Unfortunately, I feel the same way about JCP that I feel for Target. Their commercials are dope, but once you get to the store it does not have the same impact. Nevertheless, at least JCP's website is a bit more user-friendly compared to Target when shopping for clothes and shoes. Non-user friendly websites make me upset (but that is a conversation for another day).

So while I was browsing JCP looking for some shoes I saw in People StyleWatch (my favorite magazine btw), I found these adorable espadrilles that I wanted to share. In general, I hate espadrilles and rarely would you ever catch me in one, but the right person would definitely make these stand out. Just too cute and perfect for spring/summer.

2011 Oscars: My Favs

Personally, the 2011 Oscars was a bore to me. The only reason I tuned in was OF COURSE for the red carpet which is ALWAYS a must see and to see who would win for Best Actress. As I am sure you all know I am a total supporter of Natalie Portman.

The Winner IS:

Natalie Portman

*I just simply adore her. She deserves this award. She looks so tired here though. I am sure she wants this baby out of her already. Now in terms of her dress I think the color is beautiful and the dress is stunning, but the color choice on her was not my favorite. I also think they could have done better with the execution of her hair and makeup, but she is still stunning.

Now for my favs (in no particular order):

Mila Kunis

*Overall, she looks absolutely stunning to me. A Classic beauty. At first, I have to admit I was not crazy about her dress. I loved the color, but the style was something that had to grow on me. Either way she looked amazing in it. Thus far, the best I think out of all the awards.

Jennifer Hudson

*Jhud is hands down the best dress of the night for me. She looked ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I particularly love this look because it is not black. I am so tired of seeing her in black. She really hit the ball out of the park with this gown. Not to mention her body looks awesome.

Halle Berry

*Halle, as always, is a stunning beauty. I personally think she did this Marchesa gown justice. At first when I saw it I thought "Wow lots of tulle" lol; however, it is a gorgeous gown and she executed it beautifully.

Sandra Bullock

*Sandy is one of my favorite actresses and I always love when she steps onto the red carpet making a statement. This year was no different. Red was the perfect choice for her. She looked amazing. The dress fit her in all the right places and she looked like she felt beyond confident in it. A true beauty.

Helen Mirren

*I had to post a picture of her because she is extremely regal. She never disappoints me. Everytime I see her she looks like the queen. Fantastic execution here overall.

These were just a handful of the beautiful gowns that touched the red carpet tonight - along with Celine Dion, Hilary Swank and Michelle Williams. I had a few favorites, but the ones I mentioned did it for me :-).

Weekly Fierce Find - Wild Pair

I am ALWAYS interested in what Wild Pair comes out with for spring and fall. I like Wild Pair because they are a good default brand for some sexy and vibrant pumps and/or sandals. Not to mention, Bakes/Wild Pair can usually be found in your local mall. So all in all they are a good default place to go for a last minute find.

Celebrity Closets I Adore

Last night, while chit chatting with one of my favorite people the topic of closets came up. I recently gave my bedroom a much needed face lift and expanded my closets in the process. I'm not going to lie, my new closets are actually very nice and they definitely serve their purpose for the time being.

However, my friend and I could not help but gush over the fact that our future dream wardrobe space will practically have its own zip code because what fashionable girl doesn't want her closet to be registered with its own zip code?!?!

BUT...

Until then I'd settle for a converted bedroom space. As you can see when it comes to closets I jump into the ONLY "Carrie Bradshaw" mentality. I could truly go on and on about what my dream wardrobe space would look like, but that would take all day. I am very detailed ;-).

Moving along...

With wonderful closets and fabulous clothes on our minds my friend and I picked five celebrities that we would just LOVE to go shopping in their closets.

~ CELEBRITY CLOSETS I ADORE ~

1) Rihanna - is the epitome of Glam Rock Couture at its finest. We all know and love us some Ri Ri, but she really is an iconic fashion figure in today's fashion world. Can you imagine shopping in Ri Ri's closet? Filled with Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Giuseppe Zanotti (just to name a few) and tons of edgy unknown British designers? Leaving would totally NOT be an option for me.

2) Beyonce - is an expensively chic southern bell (in my opinion). She oozes sophistication and chicness. There is a sensuality about her that is noticeable in the pieces she wears. Granted, I for one am not always satisfied with the "fits" Mrs. B wears, but her sense of style works for her (for the most part). Now can you imagine what her closet looks like? Vintage Chanel is definitely involved. I just love me some Chanel.

3) Kim Kardashian - now Ms. Kim K gives us sexy glam with an air of sophistication on a daily basis. She is truly Hollywood's "IT" fashion socialite and with good reasoning. She is a total advocate for one of my favorite designers Herve Leger. At any given event she can be found in one of his famous bandage dresses which she looks amazing in btw. Kim's style is very sexy. Lots of draping and asymmetrical lines in her pieces. If I had the opportunity to raid Kim K's closet, aside from Herve Leger I would be able to rack up on just about any designer because her wardrobe is full of everyone. Wouldn't that be a treat?

4) Rachel Zoe - Without a doubt I would love to go shopping in Mrs. Zoe's closet. We all know the Boho Couture stylist is one of the most reputable fashion icons in our wonderful fashion world today. She has definitely come along way and so has her closet. Lots of vintage EVERYTHING from jewelry to jeans. Erin Fetherston, Givenchy and Chanel (vintage ofcourse) can be found in her closet. Let's not forget her love of fur. Her closet is definitely something to marvel over.

Last, but certainly not least...

5) Victoria Beckham - the queen of London Luxe Chicness. I feel that is the perfect phrase for her. Never one to be seen stepping out in anything less than a pair of five inch heels, Mrs. Beckham's style is truly on another level. Along with her London Chic appeal she throws in haute couture as an accessory. Lots of fabulous pencil dresses, Birkin bags and fantastic pumps can certainly be found in her closet. I still would not even know where to begin if I were standing in the middle of her closet with a checklist.

These ladies closets are not to be messed with, but these are just five of many. Gwen Stefani's closet would also be another pick for me because as a whole I love her style.

Also, let's not forget about dear old Mariah Carey's shoe collection.

I am not a fan of her style, but her shoes are something to die over.

Weekly Fierce Find: Put a Ring On It!

The weather in NYC is BEYOND out of control. I am really confused as to what is going on. Winter is not even close to being over and the weather has been horrible on a daily basis ☹.

I cannot explain how much of a non-winter girl I am. Rain boots, snow boots, puffy jackets, hats/scarves/gloves and ponytail hair days are just NOT my thing. I really need mother nature to get it together. It's bad enough that the winter season brings cold weather, but AWFUL weather on a daily basis has me feeling like I live in Alaska and I know that I purposely do not live in a place like that for this very reason.

Not sure how many of you explore the side streets of New York City especially down in Soho/West Village area, but there are some wonderful exclusive boutiques that cater to fashionistas. Some of these boutiques have featured celebrities in a number of pieces, but they also cater to non-celebrities as long as you can afford it ofcourse.

Anyways, one of my favorite boutiques is Versailles. They have featured celebrities such as Ciara and Trina in some of their one of a kind originals. Recently, I happened to walk in just to check out their new arrivals and this little number caught my eye and I could not resist sharing.

My Best & Worst: Golden Globe Awards

Not sure how many of you saw the annual 68th Golden Globe Awards presentation yesterday, but there were some amazing gowns. I usually ONLY watch the Golden Globe Awards red carpet so I can see who is wearing what, but yesterday I watched the entire show. Before getting into my best and worst, I have to say that I am very happy and excited that Natalie Portman took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a motion picture - drama for Black Swan. Kudos to her.

She looked amazing in an unexpected mix -pink and red-Viktor and Rolf Gown.

Now for the rest....

~ B E S T ~

January Jones looks amazing on the red carpet in her red peek-a-boo Versace dress. Not everyone could pull this dress off, but she made it look extremely tasteful.

Anne Hathaway looked stunning and extremely comfortable in this Giorgio Armani Prive dress. Good job here.

As usual, lady Angelina looked beautiful. I thought the emerald green Atelier Versace gown fit her perfectly and it made her look radiant.

I adore Mila Kunis and she looked absolutely stunning in this Vera Wang emerald green dress. It was a great choice for the talented actress.

Amber Riley really stood out in her floor length Oliver Tolentino silver gown. She was glowing and looked beautiful. Two thumbs up.

Jennifer Lopez looked great in this white chiffon Zuhair Murad gown. Granted it is a softer less edgy side of the Latin diva that we have all grown to know, but I think she looks stunning.

Eva Longoria looked so glam to me in this black Zac Posen gown. I definitely think she does justice to any gown with color, but there is something sleek and beautiful about her in this black gown.

Kelly has really come a long way from hotmess to fab. I am proud of her and her decision to wear this one shoulder Zac Posen gown.

Usually, Halle Berry gives us red carpet glam, but this year she decided to be a little more risqué in her Nina Rucci bustier dress. I think that this dress would have looked amazing on the red carpet for another awards ceremony such as the Grammys, but either way she looks FABULOUS and no one can really deny that.

~ W O R S T ~

Seriously, I am not sure what Michelle Williams was doing in this Valentino dress, but I hate it. Bad color choice, too casual dress, hair and makeup is blah. Epic no on this. She could have done so much better.

Another epic fail. I am actually disappointed in Heidi Klum. This Marc Jacobs dress screams beach resort not the Golden Globe Awards.

I am not quite sure what statement Helena Bonham Carter was trying to make in this dress, but it should have not been worn. All wrong is an understatement (from head to toe) so we will leave it at that.

This really is a charming gown by Romona Keveza, but not the best fit for Jennifer Love Hewitt. I was a bit disappointed in the overall execution.

Not sure what to really make of this lacey Zuhair Murad gown worn by Christiana Augillera. Red carpet is not where this dress belongs, but I am confused as to where she should wear it. I think overall I just hate it.

Sigh...this was a COMPLETE fail. I thought her choice last year was questionable to the max, but this look definitely tops the cake. On top of it not being red carpet attire, it is far from flattering. Color, dress and fit is all wrong. Not impressed.

Overall, the red carpet attire was impressive I must say.

Purchasing trousers can be a tricky process, it definitely is for me. You want to make sure the garment is a great fit on you regardless of the style it is. I like these pants because they are a clean straight fit plus they are high waisted. These particular pants accentuate the waist and give a relaxed fit through the hips and thighs. The material of the pants give it a sleek and casual look. Not to mention that these are on sale which makes this a great steal.

Yanni's Q & A: Frumpy-to-Fab When Mixing Prints

A dear friend of mine asked me a question concerning prints and I felt the need to share:

Q: How come when I try to mix and match different patterns I come off looking homeless but I see celebs do it and they look Fab? Is there a correct way to mix and match different patterns or should this just not be done?

A: First and foremost, mix and matching prints should definitely be done if they are done right. It gives a newfound personality to something that is old and/or boring and it adds a certain spice to something new and/or simple. The key, I think, to mix and matching prints is to have a balance and in the end produce a cohesive look. Throwing too many prints together usually produces a tacky mess and not throwing enough prints into the mix usually does not give you the outcome you expected.

Tips I Follow:

For starters, the best thing to do when analyzing the right prints to mix and match is to think about the color scheme. Pallettes are everything. Keeping the color family consistent with prints helps the flow of the outfit. Secondly, vary the scale of the prints you are wearing. You can have a small neat print as a top and something bolder on the bottom or as an add on. You can also have on a bold print and throw something smaller in as an add on. Lastly, do not forget accessories. Accessories are a key element to any fit and you want to be mindful of them when you are mix and matching your prints. The perfect balance is key. Having too many prints in one outfit and then throwing in a printed accessory whether it be a headpiece, bag, scarf or jewelry can definitely clash with everything else.

At the end of the day the real question you have to ask yourself is "Do I dare to be bold?".

Mix and matching prints is a fun and bold way to express your style. Not to mention there is some trial and error involved. So if you follow the tips mentioned and give it a few tries you'll definitely be able to answer that question. Before you know it you'll realize not just celebs can be fab wearing prints.

Lovely Diva: Plus Size

I truly hate when people say "I'm too big for this" or "I'm too big for that" or "If I was smaller I would be so fly..."

Honestly, that's b.s.

I have said it once and I have said it a million times everyone is fabulous in their own way. It is up to you as an individual to make yourself shine. Size does not have a damn thing to do with anything. Granted, we all wish we could change physical attributes of ourselves and granted the plus size market is beyond sketch, but it does exist. It is very possible and encouraged to be as fly as you can be regardless of your size.

See that's the beauty with clothes.

For the most part, you can alter clothes to fit you NOT the other way around.

Note: That does not mean 1) if it is made in your size then it is for you to wear nor 2) if it was not made in your size it is meant for you to make it fit. Totallly different concept/discussion for another time

With that being said, I have to give two fashionista shout outs....

Monif C ~ A lot of fashionistas (plus-size and non plus-size) have heard of or have worn pieces by Monif C. She is a great designer that really took the plus-size market by storm. Her pieces are made to help bring out the inner diva in all plus-size beauties and I simply adore it. If you have yet to check out her website or boutique you have no idea what you are missing.

Now I just had to include a photo from one of my clients that I do not even really consider plus-size in my eyes, but nevertheless she is a beautiful woman (inside and out) who truly makes plus-size fashion look effortless. Aside from me dressing her for events, she really is a fashionista. Always fabulous.

Yanni's New Years Fashion Resolutions: 2011

HAPPY NEW YEAR LUVS

Last year, I shared with you all my fashion resolutions for 2010. Now 2010 was a very interesting year lots of ups and downs, but I like to think I accomplished a good amount of my goals. I would like to do the same this year. Usually, I do not make resolutions because they always get broken or what have you, but in terms of my fashion resolutions I think I did a fairly good job of sticking to most of them.

My motto moving forward in 2011 is "Toddler Steps In All My Endeavors". Last year, I was all about baby steps and getting my feet wet. My feet are officially wet and its time to take on things on a larger scale which I am ready to do.

With that being said I thought I would share with my luvs my fashion resolutions for 2011. It isn't much, but by the end of the year I should have seen improvement in each one of these areas.

1. Continue to improve on my skills and take what I have learned to the next level career wise

2. Evolve on a larger scale as a blogger/fashion writer by making new connections to improve my writing portfolio

3. The next few months, for me, are test shoot months and to do a shoot a month would be fantastic starting in January to update my fashion portfolio

4. Launch Yannid.net 2.0 (upgraded version) hopefully by the end of this month

5. Finally, finish FIT with one more class left.

6. Work Fashion Week (Fall and Spring) - ALWAYS A MUST!

7. Build up my clientele

I really adore this dress. I am not crazy about it on the model; however, when I first saw it in the store it caught my attention immediately. In my opinion, its a great option for a holiday dress for the numerous events going on in Nov/Dec. It gives the right amount of simplicity with a relevant chicness in the back. Hey luvs,

It's definitely been a little minute since I last kept you all updated on the goings and comings of my life...let me tell you there has been some turbulence. I have really been busy with my full time (we all know how that can be) and freelancing. Also, my website: Yanni D is under reconstruction which I am very excited about so stay tuned for that. Towards the end of the year, I am going to be working on doing more fashion write ups and also looking to put my test shoots together to update my portfolio. It's necessary to keep everything up to date and fresh. More updates to come, but I just wanted to give you all a splash of Yanni D.

I really just wanted to take a moment to honor all the people and companies that have really been striving for a Breast Cancer cure. It's really refreshing to see so many people/companies/organizations/stores/brands/talk shows coming together for a great cause and raising a substantial amount of money to give to Breast cancer research. One of my favorite and fashion forward initiatives that went about supporting the cause very well is ShoeDazzle.

Weekly Fierce Find - The Love of Flats

Having a classic pair of flats is essential to any females wardrobe; this is something that I stand by 100%. On most given days you can catch me with a fab pair of heels and a cute pair of flats to go with it. I usually do this because I like to have the option to switch them throughout the day if need be. However; heels are beautiful to look at, but not always the most comfortable pair of shoes to be in all day especially if you walk a lot in a metro city lol. Having flats handy is a MUST in my world as well as my fellow fashionistas.

Now just because they are flats does not mean they cannot be fashionable. There are so many different kinds of flats ranging from styles to prices, but this past weekend I found an adorable pair at my neightborhood Payless and definitely wanted to share....

Addicted To Chocolate Spending....

Chocolate is a decadent crush....

To most people having chocolate anything is a simple treat. The desire to have it is insatiable which can totally be equated to social shopping/retail therapy.

I thought about this as I sipped my Caffe Vanilla blend frappuccino and enjoyed a brownie. In the middle of pondering about my impromptu shoe purchase yesterday I asked myself why? In my opinion, an array of quality pieces has a longtime life expectancy. Granted I had a slight justification conversation with myself as to why I just needed those boots, but I do a good job of separating short term and long term purchases. My desire to have those boots ruled out any negative because somewhere someday I will put those boots to good use.

I like the term social shopper because it means observing and making good use of merchandise that will benefit you one day. Although overly spending to the max is not the best direction to go in; I do believe that constantly learning and upgrading yourself fashionably with what is out there and continually adding to your wardrobe is a lifetime of chocolate spending. It's easy to relate social shopping to chocolate because obtaining a new piece can be viewed as an urge, want and need. However; in reality there is truly nothing wrong with a shopping crush.

I've had a lot of people ask me "how do I add to my wardrobe/change my wardrobe without breaking the bank?" Referring to this idea of chocolate spending is one of the answers. I'm not saying everyone has to relate to this idea, but since chocolate (or any dessert for that matter) is a treat for most people being able to treat your wardrobe the same way will help in the long run. Just a thought.

This week I tried to make it my priority to add an item or two to my work clothes closet. Work clothes are always interesting because depending on where you work you need to be able "make it work" accordingly. This usually entails purchasing lots of basics, some key pieces and accessories. Let's not forget the shoe game HAS to accommodate the fit right. This usually consists of a pair of classic work pumps, a stylish pair of after work pumps and the token flats of the day. Fashion's Night Out Recap

Fashion's Night Out was definitely a success if I do say so myself. This was my first year attending the event and it was a cute-fun-fashion party in the streets of New York City. I am going to recap my experience that night, but first let's go back to the middle of the week when NYFW kicked off.

On Wednesday, I attended an interesting fashion presentation for designer Emilie Jerard titled "Vamp". Emilie is a native of New Jersey and has a passion for design and creating alternative pieces. Her recent collection shared an interesting aesthetic of vamp and urban flair, with a hint of rebellious sex appeal. The presentation was held in the chic confines of the Bryant Park Hotel and a number of fashion socialites were in attendance, including Beyonce's own stylist, who was passing through to show Jerard support.

The cohesion of the collection (from hair to makeup) was implemented perfectly and overall the presentation made a statement. Emilie Jerard presents a twist in her pieces and I am sure we will be seeing more of her and her designs in the near future.

Now, fast fwd to Friday....

Fashion's Night Out was crowded with fabulous people excited to store hop. My area of choice started with Soho, but ended in the Meat Packing District. I hit Phillip Lim 3.1 first with my fellow fashionista and before we knew it we had a little crew of people that met up with us and the night took off. I could not even begin to tell you how many stores we went in and out of mixing and mingling and let's not forget having a cocktail or two. A lot of the stores had cute little presentations, giveaways and photo areas set up for the guests. Throughout the night in Soho there were several celebrity appearances such as Pharrell arriving on a float down West Broadway and Kanye walking with a crowd of fans down Wooster street. It was definitely a sight to see especially since Soho was packed like the West Indian parade was happening all over again. Let's not even get into the crowd that was out and about in the Meat Packing District. Packed was an understatement. The crowd was even more fabulous and it was truly a huge party in the streets. I heard that last year's FNO was slightly better than this years, but I'm assuming it was because last year's was a bit more organized and it did not have the same amount of stores on the agenda. Ten times more stores jumped on the band wagon this year so chaos was prevalent, but I still adored it. I honestly, had a great relaxed chill time with my friends and enjoying what the designers presented for us.

For all you West Indian's have a fun day and be safe its crazy in the streets.

This week is filled with some amazing events and I am extremely excited . Can you tell? lol

So September 9th kicks off NYC/Mercedes-Benz Fashion week and it ends on September 16th. Thus far, this week I have a few events to go to and things are still coming in. I will definitely be working a few shows this year at the new venue Lincoln Center and also attending some shows to do write ups. Yay!

Another plus, this year a dear friend of mine is also working NYC Fashion week on the press side. She was able to get an amazing internship and she gets to stay with me all week while we have a great time bouncing from shows and events. Very excited about seeing her.

The Clutch: An Accessory Yes -OR- No?

Lately, I have been running into more and more handbag designers or aspiring handbag designers focusing primarily on clutches. Recently, an aspiring designer asked me if I thought clutches were vital or not to a lady's wardrobe and my answer was YES.

Honestly, I do not know what I would do if clutches were not invented. The idea of "The Clutch" has definitely come full circle from previous decades. If we go back in time, women started out with clutches and then various forms of other handbags were designed and became popular. However; "The Clutch" is similar to "The Little Black Dress" classy and iconic.

I personally adore clutches because not only are they an accessory, but adding a clutch to a look instead of a regular hobo/shoulder bag/tote definitely takes the look to another level. There is something about a clutch that can add sophistication, edge and chicness to a look. It's quite remarkable if you ask me. We all know, because I have stressed time and time again, that accessories are the end all be all to any look. Findng the perfect fit is a MUST, but finding the perfect accessories is just as crucial. That is how I look at clutches. Adding the perfect clutch to a casual look will take the look to an elevated casual level and adding it to a formal/semi formal look will ofcourse do the look justice.

I love to add clutches to casual looks because I like to look for elevated chicness. It simply fits into my personal style. Gone were the days of adding a clutch to an evening look just because its the "thing to do". Nowadays, clutches being used for a non-occassion day is definitely the "IN" thing because they are no longer boring and typical. Designers have added tons of flair to the classic everyday clutch ranging from chains to ruffles.

I know yall probably think I am on an Aldo kick this week, but Aldo's is one place I like to go clutch shopping. They have some trendy and affordable clutches that always seems to stand out. Below are my favorite picks from Aldo this week.

My favorite color in these are the Khaki ones (the color being featured). When I saw these I thought they were the perfect fall peep toe boots. Lace up boots have been a hot trend and finding the perfect ones are not always that easy. These are chic and casual without doing too much. Perfect for dressing up or down. Not to mention in terms of comfort they are not bad at all. My favorite part about these boots is the peep toe addition. It makes it fun and adds another trend to the mix. They are not your typical lace up boots. Definitely add these to your fall collection.

PSA of the Week: Clothing Retirement

Another Monday luvs and the weather was not the most pleasant in the NYC area. While on my train road home I was pondering the crappy weather and I saw the ONLY fashion no no; hence this post.

When is clothing retirement necessary? Let's review exhibit A-D and hopefully by the end of this post things will be a bit clear.

Exhibit A: When the outsole of the shoe is practically hanging off by inches then it is time for that shoe to be RETIRED. There is no reason and I mean NO REASON why anyone should see the entire bottom of the shoe in the front.

Exhibit B: Many of us have been there...WAIT let me set the mood for you. So you got your favorite pair of jeans that you want to rock for the day/night and its a bit snug so you gotta pull a little bit hard to get it up. You pull just a tad, but that does not do the trick. SOoooo pull some more, and more and RIP. Someway, somehow your favorite pair of jeans rip. Either on the inside of your thigh or one of the belt hoops either way the jeans are damaged goods at this point. Now if anyone knows what its like to rip a pair of great jeans its yourz truly, but when and if that happens and they can be fixed....get them fixed. If the jeans cannot be fixed then they need to be RETIRED. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should be walking around with ripped jeans that are not SUPPOSED to be ripped. Unacceptable. Let me reiterate that because I am sure some people are not understanding what was just said. Destroyed jeans are definitely in right now, but there is a difference between destroyed acceptable jeans and destroyed unacceptable jeans. Please make the right decision people.

Exhibit C: Needle and thread are two tools that more people should look into. If you are holding onto a pole on the train because clearly the train rides can get a little turbulent please be mindful of any open holes that may be visible on your shirt or sweater. It really only takes two seconds to sew a hole up and if you do not have two seconds then the garment should not be worn at the moment. If the garment cannot be saved then it is time to be RETIRED.

Last, but not least of my pet peeves....

Exhibit D: Laundry mishaps occur sometimes. Its life and perfectly understandable, but SERIOUSLY bleached shirts? Bleached spots? Anything bleached on an item of clothing should really not be worn. If the original item you purchased is now a different color or pattern then more thought should be put into purchasing another item that is similar or the same item (whatever you may fancy). At the end of the day its not attractive to walk around with bleach spots on your clothing. People really need to pull themselves together.

Ageless Beauty: Dr. Jeannette Graf

Last night I attended a fabulous beauty event for the beauty blogging community. The event was in honor of, beauty influencer, Dr. Jeannette Graf which was hosted by Karen Oliver & Associates and Genevieve Santos, CEO of Gorgeous on the Go. Dr. Graf was a lovely woman with a great aura who truly puts her passionate experience and knowledge out into the beauty world. Her new book "Stop aging, start living" with Alisa Bowman gives insight into a thorough 2-week ph diet that erases wrinkles, beautifies skin, and makes you feel fantastic. Dr. Graf discussed the importance of our ph balance (basically the acidity or basicity of a solution) and how we can take control of it.

During her lecture she stated several interesting points, but one of the main points I walked away with was how much our ph balance helps regulate our system and keeps the body healthy from prone diseases. When we indulge in foods that are in in acidity we are sliding down to a negative ph balance. Obviously, maintaining control of your ph and what you eat can be very trying, but the important thing is to learn balance. Learning what foods we can have hefty amounts of and what foods we need to delete from our menu or cut down drastically on. This was definitely an eye opener for a lot of people.

At the close of the lecture, an amazing goody bag filled with $700 dollars worth of beauty products was raffled off and all attendees received a signed book from Dr. Graf. There was also time for Q and A which people definitely took advantage of. Having a renowned dermatologist such as Dr. Graf in your presence makes you want to ask her every and any issue you ever had dealing with skincare - whether it be yours or someone else.

Lots of mingling was done and connections were made. Karen Oliver & Associates and Genevieve Santos did an amazing job and for that I thank them. Common Ground: Urban Outfitters

As I sat next to my two homegirls on a bench at Urban Outfitters I thought back to how we got here. Let me see - work, dinner, then a casual walk debating on relationships, religion and politics. Finally, we strolled into UO because they happen to still be open. The consensus at the door was "ohh let's go to Urban."

We strolled through the racks trying on hats, smelling perfumes and contemplating potential new fits. I couldn't help but notice how all three of us with three completely different styles all seemed at ease in the store.

I've shared my likes for Urban Outfitters and I've posted some great fierce finds from them, but at that very moment I truly dug the store because it was able to accommodate several different types of females without even trying. This got me thinking about common ground. Finding a piece(s) that works for more than one type of person. Something that works for several body types in its own way.

Urban Outfitters is definitely a common ground store. It really has different pieces that works for several different styles. Granted so do a lot of stores, but with Urban you really can see a variety of body types and styles illustrating their view whether it be with a skirt or a fedora. Personal style at a high. Gotta luv that.

~Yanni's Quarterly Update~

It's been a little second since I've updated yall on the going ons in my world hehe. So let's see where shall I begin? Well my days have been pretty filled with a perm ft gig. I have always been a firm believer in God opening doors to help us prosper. They may not be the doors we want, but they are doors we need nonetheless. This new path I have acquired is just another door to help lead me in the right direction and for that I am beyond grateful. As we all know adjusting to a new anything can be a trying process and this situation is no different. I want to be the best at my job so the not knowing and the transitioning is a killer; however, slowly, but surely I am making headway.

Onto the next....

So currently got the ft gig in the loop what else have I been up to? Yall should know this: Fashion, fashion and more fashion hehe. I had my moment where I was re-adjusting to the corporate 9-5 grind and now that I feel I am making some headway in my new position its time for me to get back to the goal. The funny thing about having a goal is that one can be easily deterred from it. Keeping that focus and maintaining that dedication to accomplishing it is the important thing and my goals are constantly at the forefront.

With that being said Aug/Sept is about to speed up for me. Looking to set up some meetings for some new styling projects, working on the revamp of Yannid.net, working with my partner on branding stuff for our new company, putting my pen game down some more on the fashion contributor side, finishing my remainding two classes and last, but certainly not least attending/covering NYC Fashion Week. Busy bee I am, but all is fair when your going for the goal.

I think I pretty much summed up what my life has been like and what I am looking forward to.

My Personal Opinion: Your Personal Style!

Everyone has their own way of dressing; whether it be labeled style or not is a matter of personal opinion ~Yourz Truly~

I know I have said this before, style is something that is developed by an individual. Their preference on wearing a belt in the back or in the front is their own person style. It is something that can be changed, but it still runs on a preference. When trying to develop one's style, I personally think, baby steps is an important key to remember. You need to take what you like such as plaids/stripes and learn how to add or take away other elements when integrating them into an outfit.

I felt the need to share my thoughts on this because there are a lot of people who have the potential to upgrade their style, but they either do not know how to or they are scared to. A lot of people are stuck on rules, what they learned growing up, and fear. Fear of wearing the wrong thing or being judged.

Judgement is going to happen regardless if we like it or not. As a human race, sadly its like second nature for some people to judge. However; style has a lot to do with trial and error. Its about mixing and matching certain things and seeing how it works on your body and how it works together. There are times when I walk out the house and I could look extreme to the normal eye, but I'm going to wear it anyway. I'm going to test it out and see what worked for me and what did not. Next time around i'll know what to mix it with or what to take out.

Trial/error and baby steps are some key elements to developing your own personal style.

I could go more in dept but we shall leave that for another post. Hopefully for you luvs out there that are scared to experiment or do not know how to will take some comfort in knowing that we have all been there. There is nothing wrong with trying because everybody has their own style. Knowing and owning it is the important thing.

Summer Cocktail!

It's Summer time and what's a girl to do if she doesn't have a good cocktail....dress I mean. I was never a gown girl. Even for my 12th grade prom I designed my own non-gown like dress. There is something about a long gown that bothers me. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of beautiful gowns in the world and I'm sure I'd look pretty decent in a few ;-), but I feel restricted in gowns. Even if I do end up wearing a longer dress to an event I usually have it altered in some way so that I do not feel so confined. Personal problem I guess, but that luvs is the beauty about fashion. You can do as you want and please with clothing to fit your needs and wants.

Anyways, since I do not wear a lot of long beautiful dresses to functions, I wear the next best thing: cocktail dresses. Every year Spring/Summer present some beautiful colorful cocktail dresses that are made for each and every type of individual. From crazy bold patterns and prints to simple pastels, there is a cocktail for every diva.

I recently attended my twin cousin's elegant 18 and I wore a beautiful fuchsia ruffled cocktail dress. This particular dress had been sitting in my closet for over a year and it was perfect for the event at hand. I remember purchasing it like it was yesterday. I was flipping through the racks bored with the options until this bold color caught my attention. I love fuchsia for its richness. It is not considered a jewel tone color, but to me it gives the emphasis of one and I like that a lot. Not only was it filled with richness, ruffles and a summer feel, but it was short and sweet. Perfect for me.

I chose this dress for three reasons. 1) the color popped out at me 2) it's a cocktail dress 3) it does a good job of accentuating the curves tastefully. As we all know finding the perfect fit for any garment can be trying, but when it comes to something as distinct as a cocktail dress you want the fit to be close to perfect for you and the occasion. Now this dress is a bit pricey and I am not saying to run out and purchase it, but this is one of many examples of a cute cocktail look. With the right accessories and shoes this dress would fit for a number of occasions without being "too much" or "too little". Nordstrom's is a great reference spot for picking out the perfect little cocktail piece, along with Macy's and other huge retail chains. However; some of my favorite designers (just so we can narrow things down a bit) are Rachel Roy, BCBG and ASOS. They truly have some distinct styles that gives a dress that WOW factor.

All White....NOT!

So anyone that knows me, knows I'm random and sometimes people do not get me which is fine because there is always a method to my madness. With that being said I have to share my plight with the color WHITE.

Now do not get me wrong I have basic white stuff like tanks, tees....shoot I even have a white sandal or two, but there is just something about the color white that I do not mesh well with. 1) It gets dirty faster than you can blink. 2) although its a neutral color that is made to go with everything it does not have personality to me. White is just dry. 3) last, but certainly not least white is a color that requires way too much attention. Depending on what type of piece it is more than likely you'll have to do layering of some sort regardless if its a slip or tank and paying more attention to your undergarments is a necessity when white is involved. RME. Too much work. Aside from that I've just never liked white nor really owned it. Whenever white is an option I always go for the runner up. Simple as that.

It's funny because the other day while I was getting ready for work I decided to wear a white button up (I literally only own one). Sadly, some of my concealer accidentally fell on it and there went that shirt. At the time, I hadn't worn it in eons and I guess it will be another few eons before I decide to wear it again. I know what your thinking, "Why would you put makeup on with a white shirt?" Well believe it or not I'm pretty careful when applying my makeup and hardly ever get any on my clothes. I was not so lucky this time and I can't help but think it has something to do with me wearing this damn white. It was not meant to be.

Ne wayz, I am attending an all white party tonight and I had THE ONLY issue trying to find a fit. I'm a defiant individual so I do not follow many rules especially when it comes to fashion. I can count on how many fingers I've actually worn all white to an all white party. Zero. Last weekend I went to an all white party and wore grey, black, royal blue with hints of white. Lol.

I just really do not do all white; however, for this party tonight I had a set vision to wear a white skirt. Not because I wanted to follow the rules just because I had an idea in my head of the fit I wanted and it included a white skirt. Shrugs.

The sucky thing about my creative mind is that I can easily come up with a fit, palette, etc for myself and anyone else within a matter of minutes, but usually when it comes to looks for me I never have all the pieces. Therefore, finding the right pieces becomes a very trying process. I get stuck altering my ideas and what not which blows. Basically my mind is telling me to become a designer because I'm always creating things that are not there. lol.

That's neither here nor there, my point is I have an all white party to go to and finding a fit was extremely difficult. I hate being like everyone else. I take individuality pretty seriously. An all white party theme definitely limits clothing options by half. There are not many places to get original white pieces. With that being said you can guarantee everyone is pretty much going to hit up the same spots. No bueno. That's what made this process very hard. Between the limitations, my individuality, and me being slightly bourgeoisie. I couldn't just get any old thing to wear.

I finally found a skirt, but its FAR from the vision in my head, but desperate times definitely called desperate measures so I had no choice. Obviously you know I will not be wearing all white tonight I will be a representation of 4th of July - red, white and blue (navy instead of royal). I will post pics later on, but the more I sit here and think about the outfit that I am not in love with, but the outfit I will grow to like enough to wear, I cant help but think how much I truly just dislike white.

Hey luv's. My consistency has been a bit sketch the past few weeks and I apologize. New movements going on in this good old world of mine and I was just trying to keep up ;-).

Anyways, I need a new fedora and felt the need to share my thoughts on why I ♥ fedora's so much. Now don't get me wrong, I dig several types of hats so there is no discriminating over here. But fedora's hold a special place. I honestly do not remember when I started rocking hats, but I do remember when I looked one day and saw my own personal collection. I also remember the day I purchased my first fedora and I haven't looked back since.

Fedora's are a cute default accessory: good for throwing on just to run out and perfect for a trendy date night. It's a versatile piece.

I really dig the variety at vintage shops and flee markets so I get from them as well. A Women's Right To SHOP!

I was laying down watching one of my favorite episodes of Sex and the City: Season 6 (A Women's Right To Shoes) and it got me thinking about some stuff. One of my pet peeve's are when people say to me "you shop too much". Like really? What is shopping too much? We all have our faults in life, but I really wonder why is shopping automatically a bad one for most people? Now do not get me wrong some people shop beyond their means. That becomes another problem (that we shall talk about at a later time), but what is wrong with shopping when you enjoy it and it makes you look and feel good? Andddd you can afford it? Not a damn thing.

Most people use shopping as a form of therapy. Retail therapy if you will. If done correctly it is a very a healthy thing that ALL people should engage in if they have not already. Especially when you work hard everyday you should be able to reward yourself with something. Once a week? Every two weeks? Once a month? Adding to your wardrobe and being therapeutic through shopping is not a crime.

This brings me to my title: A women's right to shop. At the end of the day when people say you shop too much the tactless thing to say would be "and you don't mind your business enough". The witty thing to say would be "and?" But the best thing to say would be "you don't shop enough :-)".

Who Wears Short Shorts?

Contrary to the rest of the female population up until recently I did not like shorts. Bermuda shorts I could wear, but short shorts I've always been on the fence about them. Now do not get me wrong, I adore some of the cute shorts that have been out in past seasons and this season as well, but I was convinced that short shorts did not look good on everyone. However; I had to re-evaluate my mind set on that. Shorts are very similar to anything else, but we'll equate them to pants. Finding the right pair of pants whether it be jeans or slacks you have to focus on a certain kind of fit for your body. The same goes with short shorts. Since short shorts are short you have to pay attention to the cut of them. We are dealing with very little material so the cut and shape are important. When dealing with shorts it is crucial to be aware of where they actually fall on your thigh. Like anything else though, determining the fit of the shorts of your choice will ultimately help in the decision making process.

With all that being said, this year I recently started adding some short shorts to my wardrobe. I have a few rompers (which I adore) and a few other short pieces. It definitely took me a while to get to this point, but I am happy I did. I am starting to realize that short shorts are not that bad.

Separates: A Girl's BEST Friend

As I was doing a little bit of window shopping yesterday I decided to browse at some of my favorite stores in Soho. While I was browsing I started thinking about sets whether it be jewelery or clothes. I started thinking about the typical consumer and how its easier for them to just buy a set and wear it as such without really thinking outside the box with it. Having a keen eye for what looks good, what looks good on you and being able to take risks with style is definitely not easy for everyone.

This is why I started thinking about separates. Now separates are a girl's best friend in my opinion for many different reasons. 1. Not everything that comes together looks good together 2. Just because its a set does not mean you cannot think outside the box with it. 3. A set may work together for one person, but may not work for another person and so on. The new age concept when dealing with a set of something whether it be a necklace and earring set or a blazer and skirt set is to be able to use it separately. Separates help create a variety of new looks with just a few main pieces. A show that uses separates very well and teaches the everyday female on the importance of separates is "What Not To Wear".

Personally, I use separates everyday of my life. Rarely do I ever do anything together, but that is just my personal style. It's important, when using separates to think/know/fit what looks right for your body type and what compliments your personal style (whatever that may be).

The other day I thought about nudes and what a big statement it has been this season. Retailers such as Topshop and Club Monaco have taken the nude trend to an elevated level in different ways. I am a huge fan of nudes because it has become a temp neutral. Combining nudes with various colors can give you looks you never thought you could have and with the help of Polyvore (my favorite site ever) I wanted to show you all what I came up with.

Double L's: Lipsy London

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Lipsy London launch preview for the US. For those of you who do not know Lipsy London is one of the hottest new UK fashion labels. It sets the scene for young fashionistas who want that red carpet look, but not for a red carpet price.

Lipsy London recently launched in select Bloomingdale's stores this spring. The Spring 2010 collection is definitely a must have in my personal opinion. The pieces include something for every type of girl whether it be the weekly party girl or the stylish girl next door. Lipsy London has done a fantastic job of paying attention to detail and trends by adding jewels and bead encrusted waists, girly feathers and ruffles, sequins and various forms of layering. Not to mention, this new and hip label has featured red carpet stars in their fabulous pieces such as: Lindsay Lohan, Alexandra Burke, Lady Gaga, Paris Hilton and Taylor Swift.

The launch was a tasteful and quaint tea party preview giving us a beautiful boutique feel downtown in the Meat Packing District of New York City. Models sat on select couches playfully sipping tea and looking radiant. Scattered around (on racks and hanging from various places) in the room were different pieces of the Spring 2010 collection.

When I first laid eyes on the pieces I immediately equated Lipsy London as a more trendy fun version of your classic pretty in pink dress. All their pieces have glam and glitz to it and come in different color combinations. Its a fun label with a 16-30 demographic and sizes ranging from 2-12.

The past few weeks have been busier than most and I had to take a second and 
reflect on my daily activites. Being an up and coming fashion stylist is more 
than a grind its the life you live. You are constantly selling yourself. I am a 
product of what I do.

Making sure I am mixing and mingling is a MUST at any event I attend. You just 
never know when your break is going to come whether it be temp or perm. I've 
always had a hustler's mentality, but being in this business called fashion it 
comes out in true colors.

24/7 is an understatement to what you need to know and what you constantly need 
to do to get yourself out there. You become good at advertising, marketing and 
selling all in one.

I sat and thought about this today "A day in my life" its like that Langston Hughes poem 
Mother to Son said "Life for me ain't been no Crystal Stair", but if your passionate its the 
only stair you need to climb.

I have sooooo many different thoughts going on. So much to do. So many questions 
with no answers. This business is not for the weak. You have to be strong to 
maintain unless you'll go crazy. 

I realized today, a day in this up and coming fashionistas life is bananas. Ups 
and downs times ten. I can go from a part time gig to a networking event to a 
meeting all in one day and it just comes with the territory.

I wonder would I trade it? Definitely not. It's hard and a grind, but I want to 
do it. It sounds crazy, but I'm constantly reaching for the stars and I know it 
will pay off.

Its a hustle as is life.

Yanni's Weekly Update ~N~ Fierce Find

So the past few weeks my life has been crazy busy. Being an up and coming freelance stylist is bananas. There are so many different things that you go through in one day. Your life is constantly changing by the hour. You never know when a gig is going to come up or an appointment you made need to get to last minute. It's a roller-coaster ride, but not in a bad way. Juggling things around is a task in itself especially for up and coming creatives because sometimes a gig can take precedence over work. There are so many thoughts that go through my mind. I am not a regretful person so if I make a decision the chances of me wanting and sticking to it are 99%.

So what have I been up to lately? I have been assisting on more shoots and definitely getting my network game on. I have also been extremely busy with the fashion show. This show has been a 24/7 project and I know it will be until October 23rd. Although it will be challenging, a lot of work and dedication I know it will be a success because me and my partner would never settle for anything less. So far its been a crazy learning process, but so inspirational. We both have dedication, a great sense of creativity and lots of drive so only good things can come from this. Positivity, hard work and patience is definitely key.

Earlier today my partner for the show and fellow stylist were discussing how much of a necessity accessories are and what it means to truly define and own your personal style. My favorite quote by Coco Chanel is "Fashion Fades, but Style remains the same" because it is nothing short of the truth. Style is something that will transcend until the end as long as you own it. We were also discussing the difference between being trendy, following tends, and being a trendsetter. Very interesting conversation. As we talked I decided to feature an accessory (jewelry to be exact) as my weekly fierce find.

Style Vibe: Tulle, Tulle & More Tulle

So I have not written a style vibe in a long time so I felt one was due. For those of you that know me tulle is one of my favorite fun little pieces to work with. The issue with a tulle piece, especially a skirt, is that depending on how its styled it can be a blurry line from costumey to edgy. I think that some people are afraid to try a tulle skirt because it raises lots of questions like: what to wear with it and do I do a lot or a little bit of accessories?

As with most trends they go and come as the times change then they evolve and make a come back and then leave again hehe. Tulle is definitely one of those trends. It made a come back last season, but its still a current trend for Spring.

This is an outfit I wore recently to an event where the dress code was specifically to go all out. The theme was very cirque soleil so I decided tulle would be a cute little piece to incorporate. At first, I did have a bit of difficultly because I usually come up with great outfits in my head, but then finding the actual pieces sometimes does not work out in my favor. I had to make a few alterations, but nevertheless in the end it all worked out.

This is a look I did for one of my shoots in the past and the tulle skirt is a lot more calm and subtle. It actually looks like a ruffled silk skirt, but in actuality its tulle. I really liked this look because it looks chic and fashion forward without doing too much.

For both of these looks accessories made a huge impact (as they always do). Accessories can really be the answer to making or breaking a look. To give it that edge factor or making it too constumey.

As you see above there are so many ways to dress up or down a tulle skirt to make it edgy and fashion forward without making it a costume. I just wanted to give two more examples on how to bring out your inner Rihanna to strut in the streets.

1). Party Chic ~ Add a crop jacket of your preference or a boyfriend blazer, a corset, and ankle booties that have a little bit of flare whether it be ruffles, studs, fringes, buckles, straps etc and your guaranteed to be a hot commodity. Also, let's not forget some jewelry. Throw on several chains or a messy/statement necklace, a few bangles and a statement ring or glove with a simple clutch to add the finishing touch to the look.

2). Cocktail Sassy ~ A silk tank, an asymmetrical vest, a skinny waist belt, fishnets or bare legs and some stylish round toe pumps would make this an ideal fashion forward look. Throw in a bracelet or two, statement necklace and possibly a hair accessory then you would be ready to go.

Playing around with the colors for the pieces you add with the skirt will give you a playful look. So feel free to get your tulle on and have fun.

Kenneth Cole is a really good brand. There pieces are chic and modern, but still have a timeless look and feel to them. I simply live for their shoes. They have the cutest pieces. Now personally I do not shop there often because I feel it can be a hit or miss with my taste, but when I do find something I like. I reallllllly like it.

So I recently spoke with my wonderful web designer and within the next month my website will be redone. My designer thought that, although the current site is great, we could upgrade on a few things here and there. I am super excited to see the new layout when its all set up so please stay tuned for that around May.

Now for some big big news. My partner (friend and fellow stylist) and I are throwing a fashion show in the Fall entitled "Elements of Style". This has been in talk for some time now and we are finally going through with it. Our concept is exciting and we believe 100% in it. The problem now is finding sponsors and such to see our vision, but we are not worried we know everything happens in its time and we are putting in major work so it will all work out. I am very excited about this. I feel like this is going to be a great initiative for everyone involved.

In the coming weeks/months we will be looking for sponsors, up and coming designers, models, make up artists, hair stylists, photographers, and volunteers. Please feel free to refer people to me or contact me via any of my communications tools and I will respond as soon as I can. I will be posting casting calls and updates about the show periodically so please stay tuned for that.

Kicks For Your Feet

Happy Day even though the day is not as warm and bright as it was this past weekend. Over the weekend people had a taste of what Spring is going to be like and it was fantastic. I am not sure what the forecast is for the remainder of the week, but I hope that weekend weather comes back.

My homegirl and I decided to grab dinner and drinks at Brooklyn Moon, a great spot in Fort Green, this weekend. I decided to go for an urban casual chic look so you know I had to throw on my coach converse. From a past post I listed some great coach footwear finds and converse were definitely in there. I am not sure about you, but I am far from a sneakers girl.

Once upon a time I used to wear sneakers like there was no tomorrow, but in this day and age I rock heels or flats like they are going out of style; however, every fashion diva needs a cute and dependable pair of kicks in her closet. There are times when you just want to go for a walk or be extremely dressed down and you want to be adorable and chic while doing it. For those certain times sneakers are a great option. Aside from Coach, Prada, Gucci, or/and Chanel sneakers some affordable stylish kicks that I like to rock and would recommend are DC shoes and/or Pastry sneakers.

Now personally I like converse styled kicks (probably because I love the coach pairs I have so much), but these pastry hi tops are really cute especially since they come in summer colors. The reason I like DC and Pastry so much is because they have bright colors which I love, different styles of sneakers and they are extremely affordable. You can rack up on two pairs or so and mix and match them to your liking. Also, they are comfortable which is very important so if your looking for summer kicks for your feet take a visit to these stores or their websites.

Two up and coming fashion stylists are seeking fresh new designers to be featured in their fall 2010 runway show.

Designers must possess:

-a unique sense of style

-ability to create (4) ready to wear and (1) evening look based on our theme
